Afteryouaredonepumpingfuel,slowlyremovethefuelfiller
nozzle—allowaboutfivesecondsafterpumpingfuelbeforeremoving
thefuelfillernozzle.Thisallowsresidualfueltodrainbackintothe
fueltankandnotspillontothevehicle.
Note:Afuelspillageconcernmayoccurifoverfillingthefueltank.Do
notoverfillthetanktothepointthatthefuelisabletobypassthefuel
fillernozzle.Theoverfilledfuelmayrundownthedrainlocatedbelow
andinfrontofthefuelfillerdoor.
IfthecheckfuelfillinletlamporCHECKFUELFILLINLETmessage
comeson,thefuelfillinletmaynothaveproperlyclosed.Theinletmay
havestuckopenordebrismaybepreventingtheinletfromfullyclosing.
Atthenextopportunity,safelypullofftheroad,turnofftheengine,
openthefuelfillerdoorandremoveanyvisibledebrisfromthefuelfill
opening.Inserteitherthefuelfillnozzleorthefuelfillfunnel(see
Refillingwithaportablefuelcontainerforfunnellocation)provided
withthevehicleseveraltimestodislodgeanydebrisand/orallowthe
inlettocloseproperly.Ifthisactioncorrectstheproblem,thecheckfuel
fillinletlamporCHECKFUELFILLINLETmessagemaynotreset
immediately.Itmaytakeseveraldrivingcyclesforthecheckfuelfillinlet
lamporCHECKFUELFILLINLETmessagetoturnoff.Adrivingcycle
consistsofanenginestart-up(afterfourormorehourswiththeengine
off)followedbycity/highwaydriving.Continuingtodrivewiththecheck
fuelfillinletlamporCHECKFUELFILLINLETmessageonmaycause
theserviceenginesoonlamptoturnonaswell.
WARNING:Thefuelsystemmaybeunderpressure.Ifyouhear
ahissingsoundnearthefuelfillerdoor(EasyFuel™“nocap”
fuelsystem),donotrefueluntilthesoundstops.Otherwise,fuelmay
sprayout,whichcouldcauseseriouspersonalinjury.
Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV) fuel fill inlet
Ifyourvehicleisflexfuelcapable,itwillhaveayellowbezelplacedover
thefuelfillinlet.
Choosing the right fuel
Ifyourvehicleisaflexiblefuelvehicle(FFV),useonlyUNLEADED
FUELandFUELETHANOL(Ed75–Ed85).
Ifyourvehicleisnotaflexiblefuelvehicle(FFV),thenonlyuse
UNLEADEDfuelorUNLEADEDfuelblendedwithamaximumof10%
ethanol.Donotusefuelethanol(E85),diesel,methanol,leadedfuelor
anyotherfuel.
Theuseofleadedfuelisprohibitedbylawandcoulddamageyour
vehicle.
