WARNING:Neverplace,orallowachildtoplace,theshoulder
beltunderachild’sarmorbehindthebackbecauseitreduces
theprotectionfortheupperpartofthebodyandmayincreasetherisk
ofinjuryordeathinacollision.
Child restraint and seat belt maintenance
Inspecttheseatbeltsystemsperiodicallytomakesuretheywork
properlyandarenotdamaged.
NOTE:Ifunsureabouttheproperprocedures,bringyourvehicletoan
authorizedMazdadealershipforinspection.Inspecttheseatbeltsto
makesuretherearenonicks,tearsorcuts,replacingifnecessary.Check
allemergencylockingretractorsonalloutboardseatingpositionsaswell
astheautomaticlockingmodeforchildsafetyseatsonallseatsexcept
thedriver’sseat.Allseatbeltassemblies,includingretractors,buckles,
frontseatbeltbuckleassemblies,bucklesupportassemblies(slidebar-if
equipped),shoulderbeltheightadjusters(ifequipped),shoulderbelt
guideonseatback(ifequipped),childsafetyseattetherbracket
assemblies(ifequipped),LATCHchildseattetheranchorsandlower
anchors(ifequipped),andattachinghardware,shouldbeinspectedafter
acollision.Mazdarecommendsthatallseatbeltassembliesusedin
vehiclesinvolvedinacollisionbereplaced.However,ifthecollisionwas
minorandanauthorizedMazdatechnicianfindsthatthebeltsdonot
showdamageandcontinuetooperateproperly,theydonotneedtobe
replaced.Seatbeltassembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshouldalsobe
inspectedandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationisnoted.
Theenergyabsorbingfunctionsmayhavebeenactivatedinacollisionso
therestraintsshouldbeexamined;ifthefrontairbagshavedeployed,the
pretensionershavealsodeployedandmustbereplaced—regardlessof
whethertherewasanoccupantinthepassengerseatornot.The
optionalsideairbagsarenotconnectedtothepretensioners.
WARNING:Failuretoinspectandifnecessaryreplacetheseat
beltassemblyundertheaboveconditionscouldresultinsevere
personalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
