Child booster seats
Thebelt-positioningbooster(boosterseat)isusedtoimprovethefitof
thevehicleseatbelt.Childrenoutgrowatypicalchildseat(e.g.,
convertibleortoddlerseat)whentheyweighabout40lb(18kg)andare
aroundfour(4)yearsofage.Consultyourchildsafetyseatowner
manualfortheweight,height,andagelimitsspecifictoyourchildsafety
seat.Keepyourchildinthechildsafetyseatifitproperlyfitsthechild,
remainsappropriatefortheirweight,heightandageANDifproperly
securedtothevehicle.
Althoughthelap/shoulderbeltwillprovidesomeprotection,children
whohaveoutgrownatypicalchildseatarestilltoosmallforlap/shoulder
beltstofitproperly,andwearinganimproperlyfittedvehicleseatbelt
couldincreasetheriskofseriousinjuryinacrash.Toimprovethefitof
boththelapandshoulderbeltonchildrenwhohaveoutgrownchild
safetyseats,MazdaMotorCorporationrecommendsuseofa
belt-positioningbooster.
Boosterseatspositionachildsothatvehiclelap/shoulderseatbeltsfit
better.Theyliftthechildupsothatthelapbeltrestslowacrossthehips
andthekneesbendcomfortablyattheedgeofthecushion,while
minimizingslouching.Boosterseatsmayalsomaketheshoulderbeltfit
betterandmorecomfortably.Trytokeepthebeltnearthemiddleofthe
shoulderandacrossthecenterofthechest.Movingthechildcloser(a
fewcentimetersorinches)tothecenterofthevehicle,butremainingin
thesameseatingposition,mayhelpprovideagoodshoulderbeltfit.
When children should use booster seats
Childrenneedtouseboosterseatsfromthetimetheyoutgrowthe
toddlerseatuntiltheyarebigenoughforthevehicleseatand
lap/shoulderbelttofitproperly.Generallythisiswhentheyreacha
heightofatleast4feet9inches(1.45meters)tall(aroundageeightto
agetwelveandbetween40lb(18kg)and80lb(36kg)orupwardto
100
lb(45kg)ifrecommendedbyyourchildrestraintmanufacturer).
Manystateandprovinciallawsrequirethatchildrenuseapproved
boosterseatsuntiltheyreachageeight,aheightof4feet9inches
