ELECTRICPARKINGBRAKE(EPB)
Withmanualtransmission,theEPBisapplied
automaticallyiftheignitionisswitchedoffand
thevehicle'sspeedisbelow3km/h(2mph).
Topreventautomaticoperation,whenthe
vehicleisstationary,pressandholdtheEPB
switchinthereleaseposition.Within5
Theparkingbrakesoperateontherear
wheels;therefore,secureparkingofthe
vehicleisdependentonbeingonahard
andstablesurface.
Donotrelyontheparkingbraketo
operateeffectively,iftherearwheels
havebeenimmersedinmudorwater.
seconds,switchofftheignitionandcontinueto
holdtheEPBswitchforafurther2seconds.
Withautomatictransmission,manual
applicationoftheEPBisrequired.
Note:Ifthevehicleisusedinsevereoff-road
conditions(forexample,wading,deepmud,
etc.),additionalmaintenanceandadjustment
oftheparkingbrakewillberequired.Consult
yourDealer/AuthorisedRepairer.
Drivingthevehiclewiththeparking
brakeapplied,orrepeateduseofthe
parkingbraketoslowthevehicle,may
causeseriousdamagetothebrake
system.
Inanemergency,withthevehicletravellingat
morethan3km/h(2mph),pullingontheEPB
switchandholdinggivesagradualreductionin
thespeed.Thebrakewarninglampwill
illuminateaccompaniedbyawarningtoneand
awarningmessageintheMessagecentre.The
stoplampswillilluminate.
IfthevehicleisstationarywiththeEPBapplied
andthetransmissioninDorR,pressingthe
acceleratorwillreleasetheEPBandallowthe
vehicletomoveoff.
Note:AutomaticreleaseoftheEPBisonly
possiblewhenthedriver’sdoorisclosed,or
thedriver’sseatbeltisbuckled.
Withtheignitionturnedon,pressthebrake
pedalandpressdownontheEPBswitch.This
willreleasetheEPB.
IfthesystemdetectsafaultwiththeEPB,the
amberbrakewarninglampwillilluminate
accompaniedbyamessageintheMessage
centre.
Withthevehiclestationary,pulluptheEPB
switchandreleaseittoapplytheparkingbrake.
Theparkingbrakewarninglamp(see35,
PARKINGBRAKE(RED))illuminatesto
indicatethattheparkingbrakeisapplied.
IfthesystemdetectsafaultwhileEPBis
operating,theredparkingbrakewarninglamp
willflash,accompaniedbyamessageinthe
Messagecentre.
IftheEPBisoperatedwhenthevehicle'sspeed
islessthan3km/h(2mph),thevehiclewillbe
broughttoanabruptstop.Thestoplampswill
notbeilluminated.
Note:Theredparkingbrakewarninglampwill
continuetobeilluminatedforatleastten
secondsaftertheignitionhasbeenturnedoff.
