garageforecourtswillvaryindifferentpartsof
theworld.Forexample,inmostEuropean
countries95RONunleadedfuelisreadily
available,butinsomepartsoftheworldfuel
suppliesmaybelimitedtoleadedorlower
octanefuelsonly.
Onpetrolenginemodelsfittedwitha
catalyticconverter,seriousdamagetothe
catalystwilloccurifleadedfuelisused!
PETROLENGINES
Engineswithacatalyticconverter:
Highcompressionengines:95RON

Lowcompressionengines:91RON
UNLEADEDtoEN228
Duringmanufacture,enginesaretunedtosuit
thefuelsuppliescommonlyavailableinthe
countryforwhichthevehicleisdestined.
However,ifavehicleislaterexportedtoa
differentcountry,orisusedtotravelbetween
differentterritories,theownershouldbe
awarethattheavailablefuelsuppliesmaynot
becompatiblewiththeenginespecification.If
indoubt,seekadvicefromtheterritory
concerned.
Engineswithoutacatalyticconverter:
Use91RONUNLEADEDpetrolwherever
possible.
InterritorieswhereonlyLEADEDfuelis
available,USE95RONLEADED.
Dieselengines
TheRONvaluesquotedaboveareMINIMUM
requirementsandcanbesafelyexceeded.
Usingpetrolwithaloweroctanerating,
however,cancausepersistent,heavy’engine
knock’(ametallicrappingnoise).Ifsevere,
thiscanleadtoenginedamage.
Thequalityofdieselfuel(Derv)canvaryin
differentcountriesandonlyclean,good
qualityfuelshouldbeused.Itisimportant
thatthesulphurcontentofdieselfueldoes
notexceed0.3%.InEuropeallsupplies
shouldbewithinthislimit,butinotherparts
oftheworldyoushouldcheckwithyour
supplier.Ensurethatthefuelfilterelementis
changedattherecommendedservice
intervals.
Ifheavyengineknockisdetectedwhenusing
therecommendedoctaneratedfuel,orif
steadyengineknockingispresentwhile
maintainingasteadyspeedonlevelroads,
contactyourdealerforadvice.
WARNING
NOTE:Anoccasional,light,engineknock
whileacceleratingorclimbinghillsis
acceptable.
Onbothpetrolanddieselenginevehicles,if
thefueltankisaccidentallyfilledwiththe
wrongfuel,itisESSENTIALthatyoucontact
yourLandRoverdealerBEFOREattempting
tostarttheengine.
