Aspringloadedcatchbuiltintothehandleof
thegearselectorleverrestrictsmovementof
thelever,therebypreventinginadvertentgear
selection.Thecatchhastwopressures:
AUTOMATICTRANSMISSION
Vehicleswithautomatictransmissionare
equippedwithan’H-gate’gearselector
mechanism.Thiscombinestheoperating
mechanismofboththemaingearboxandthe
transfergears,andenablesthegearselector
positionsforboththehighandlowgear
rangestobelocatedsidebyside.

thefirstpressureenablesgearchangesto
bemadewithinasinglerangeofgears
(HighrangeORLowrange).
•
thesecondpressureenablestheselector
tobemovedfromonerangeofgearsto
another(ie.fromHighTOLow).
NOTE:Gearselectionbetween’D’and’3’
(Highrange)or’4’and’3’(Lowrange)maybe
madewithoutpressingthecatch.
Gearselectorlever
Movetheselectorleverforwardorbackalong
thedriver’ssideofthe’H’toselectthehigh
rangeofgears.Similarly,bymovingthelever
tothepassengerside,thelowrangecanbe
selectedinstead.The’H-gate’illuminationis
colourcodedtoidentifythetworanges:high
rangeilluminationisgreenandlowrangeis
amber.
HIGHRANGEGEARS
Usethehighrangeforroaddrivingandalso
foroff-roaddrivingacrossdry,levelterrain.
Themessagecentrewillmomentarilydisplay
’HIGH’assoonasHighrangeisselected,and
thendisplaythegearselected(eg.’3’).
