carryoutapreliminarysurveyonfoot.This
willminimisetheriskofyourvehiclegetting
intodifficultythroughapreviouslyunnoticed
hazard.
Ifthevehicleisimmobileduetolossofwheel
grip,thefollowinghintscouldbeofvalue:

Avoidprolongedwheelspin;thiswillonly
makemattersworse.Theelectronic
tractioncontrol(ETC)(iffitted)will
preventwheelspin;drivewillbediverted
fromaspinningwheelandtheremaining
wheelwillthenprovidethetraction
necessarytoovercomedifficultdriving
conditions.
Groundclearance
Forseriousoff-roaddrivingALWAYSremove
thebibspoilerextensionfromthefront
bumper(iffitted).
Don’tforgettoallowforgroundclearance
beneaththechassis,axlesandunderthefront
andrearbumpers.Notethattheaxle

Removeobstaclesratherthanforcingthe
vehicleacrossthem.

thebottomofasteepslope,orwherewheel
rutsareunusuallydeepandwheresudden

Onsoftground,theaxledifferentialswillclear
theirownpathinallbutthemostdifficult
conditions.However,onfrozen,rockyorhard
ground,ifthevehicle’sprogressishaltedasa
resultofgroundingofthechassis,thiswill
causethevehicletoriseautomaticallytothe
