NOTE:Afterthestarterswitchisturnedto
position’II’,thesystem’sdiagnosticcontrol
unitchecksitsownmemoryandthewarning
lightbulbforfaults.Ifafaultisfound,the
warninglightwillilluminate.
Sideairbagsaredesignedtoprotectthe
thoraxregionofthetorsoandwillonlydeploy
intheeventofaseveresideimpact.Theywill
NOTinflateasaresultoffrontalorrear
impacts.
Seatingpositions
Inordertoprovideoptimumprotectioninthe
eventofaseverevehicleimpact,itis
necessaryfortheairbagstodeploywith
considerablespeed.
Intheeventofaseveresidecollision,the
airbagontheimpactsideofthevehiclebreaks
throughtheseatcovering,rapidlyinflatingto
formacushionbetweentheoccupantandthe
sideofthevehicle.
Aninflatingairbagcancausefacialabrasions
andotherinjuriesiftheoccupantistooclose
totheairbagatthetimeofitsdeployment.
Notethatapartoftheoutersideoftheseat
trim(identifiedbythewoven’airbag’label)is
manufacturedwithaspeciallyconstructed
seamwhichenablestheairbagtobreak
through.Themanufactureandmaterialsofthe
seatarecriticaltotheperformanceofthe
airbag.Forthisreason,non-approvedseat
coversmustNEVERbefitted,anditis

Tominimisetheriskofaccidentalinjury
frominflatingairbags,seatbeltsshouldbe
correctlywornatalltimes.Inaddition,both
driverandfrontseatpassengershould
adjusttheseattoprovidethemaximum
practicaldistancefromthefrontairbags,
andalsoensurethatagapismaintained
betweentheuppertorsoandthesideofthe
vehicletoenableunobstructedinflationof
thesideairbags.

AirbagSRSwarninglight
Awarninglight,mountedontheinstrument
pack,willalertyoutoanymalfunctionwhich
mightpreventtheairbagSRSfromoperating
correctlyintheeventofanimpact.The
systemshouldalwaysbecheckedbyadealer
ifanyofthefollowingsymptomsoccur:

Thewarninglightfailstoilluminatewhen
thestarterswitchisturnedtoposition’II’.
•
Thewarninglightfailstoextinguishwithin
approximatelyfivesecondsafterthe
starterswitchisturnedtoposition’II’.
•
Thewarninglightilluminateswhilethe
vehicleisbeingdriven.
