Airbag SRS
IMPORTANTINFORMATION
TheairbagSRSisnotdesignedto
operateasaresultofrearcollisions,
minorfrontalorminorsideimpacts,orif
thevehicleoverturns;norwillitoperate
asaresultofheavybrakingordriving
overbumpsandpotholes.
OperationoftheairbagSRSisdependent
entirelyontheaccelerationor
decelerationforcesthatareappliedtothe
vehicle’spassengercompartmentasa
resultofacollision.Thecircumstances
affectingdifferentcollisions(vehicle
speed,angleofimpact,typeandsizeof
objecthitforexample),varyconsiderably
andwillaffecttherateofaccelerationor
decelerationaccordingly.

Airbaginflationisvirtuallyinstantaneousand
occurswithconsiderableforceaccompanied
byaloudnoise.Theinflatedairbag,together
withtheseatbeltrestraintsystem,limitthe
occupant’smovement,therebyreducingthe
riskofinjurytotheheadanduppertorso.
Itfollows,therefore,thatinsome
instances,significantsuperficialdamage
canoccurtothevehiclewithoutthe
airbagsdeployingand,conversely,thatin
othercircumstances,theairbagswill
deployeventhoughthevehiclehas
experiencedrelativelysmallamountsof
damage.
Whenanairbaginflates,afinepowderis
released.Thisisnotanindicationofa
malfunction,howeverthepowdermaycause
irritationtotheskinandshouldbethoroughly
flushedfromtheeyesandanycutsor
abrasionsoftheskin.Afterinflation,anairbag
deflatesimmediately.Thisprovidesagradual
cushioningeffectfortheoccupantandalso
ensuresthatthedriver’sforwardvisionisnot
impaired.
Airbagswillonlydeploywhentheyare
requiredtosupplementtherestraining
forceoftheseatbelts.

Followinginflation,someairbagSRS
componentsarehot-DONOTtouchuntil
theyhavecooled.
