OnBoardDiagnosticsSystem
CHECK
ENGINE
(OBDII).ThisOBDIIsystemprotectstheenvironmentbyensuringthat
yourvehiclecontinuestomeetgovernmentemissionstandards.The
OBDIIsystemalsoassiststheservicetechnicianinproperlyservicing
yourvehicle.
TheCheckEngineindicatorlightilluminateswhentheignitionisfirst
turnedtotheONpositiontocheckthebulb.Ifitcomesonafterthe
engineisstarted,oneoftheengine’semissioncontrolsystemsmaybe
malfunctioning.Thelightmayilluminatewithoutadriveabilityconcern
beingnoted.Thevehiclewillusuallybedrivableandwillnotrequire
towing.
What you should do if  the check engine light illuminates
Lightturnsonsolid:
ThismeansthattheOBDIIsystemhasdetectedamalfunction.
TemporarymalfunctionsmaycauseyourCheckEnginelightto
illuminate.Examplesare:
1.
Thevehiclehasrunoutoffuel.(Theenginemaymisfireorrun
poorly.)
2.
Poorfuelqualityorwaterinthefuel.
