andballwhichuniformlydistributesthetrailertongueloadsthroughthe
underbodystructure.Useaframe-mountedweightdistributinghitchfor
trailersover2,000lb.(907kg).
Donotinstallasingleormulti-clamptypebumperhitch,orahitch
whichattachestotheaxle.Underbodymountedhitchesareacceptableif
theyareinstalledproperly.Followthetowinginstructionsofareputable
rentalagency.
Wheneveratrailerhitchandhardwareareremoved,makesureall
mountingholesintheunderbodyareproperlysealedtopreventnoxious
gasesorwaterfromentering.
Safety chains
Alwaysconnectthetrailer’ssafetychainstotheframeorhookretainers
ofthevehiclehitch.Toconnectthetrailer’ssafetychains,crossthe
chainsunderthetrailertongueandallowslackforturningcorners.
Ifyouusearentaltrailer,followtheinstructionsthattherentalagency
givestoyou.
Donotattachsafetychainstothebumper.
Trailer brakes
Electricbrakesandmanual,automaticorsurge-typetrailerbrakesare
safeifinstalledproperlyandadjustedtothemanufacturer’s
specifications.ThetrailerbrakesmustmeetlocalandFederal
regulations.
WARNING: Donotconnectatrailer’shydraulicbrakesystem
directlytoyourvehicle’sbrakesystem.Yourvehiclemaynot
haveenoughbrakingpowerandyourchancesofhavinga
collisiongreatlyincrease.
