Thedriver’sseatpositionsensorallowsyourPersonalSafetySystem™to
tailorthedeploymentlevelofthedriverdual-stageairbagbasedonseat
position.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmallerdriverssitting
closetothedriverairbagbyprovidingalowerairbagoutputlevel.
Front passenger sensing system
Forairbagstodotheirjobtheymustinflatewithgreatforce,andthis
forcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyrisktooccupantsthatareveryclose
totheairbagwhenitbeginstoinflate.Forsomeoccupants,likeinfants
inrear-facingchildseats,thisoccursbecausetheyareinitiallysitting
veryclosetotheairbag.Forotheroccupants,thisoccurswhenthe
occupantisnotproperlyrestrainedbyseatbeltsorchildsafetyseatsand
theymoveforwardduringpre-crashbraking.Themosteffectivewayto
reducetheriskofunnecessaryinjuriesistomakesurealloccupantsare
properlyrestrained.Accidentstatisticssuggestthatchildrenaremuch
saferwhenproperlyrestrainedintherearseatingpositionsthaninthe
front.
WARNING: Airbagscankillorinjureachildinachildseat.
NEVERplacearear-facingchildseatinfrontofanactiveair
bag.Ifyoumustuseaforward-facingchildseatinthefront
seat,movetheseatallthewayback.
WARNING: Alwaystransportchildren12yearsoldandunder
inthebackseatandalwaysproperlyuseappropriatechild
restraints.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemcanautomaticallyturnoffthe
passengerfrontairbagwhenarearfacingchildseat,aforward-facing
childrestraint,oraboosterseatisdetected.Evenwiththistechnology,
parentsareSTRONGLYencouragedtoalwaysproperlyrestrainchildren
intherearseat.Thesensoralsoturnsofftheairbagwhenthepassenger
seatisemptytopreventunnecessaryreplacementoftheairbag(s)after
acollision.
Whenthefrontpassengerseatisoccupiedandthesensingsystemhas
turnedoffthepassenger’sfrontalairbag,the“passairbagoff”indicator
willlightandstaylittoremindyouthatthefrontpassengerfrontal
airbagisoff.SeeFrontpassengersensingsystemintheAirbag
