yourPersonalSafetySystem™totailortheairbagdeploymentandseat
beltpretensioneractivationdependinguponseatbeltusage.Referto

Theseatbeltpretensionersatthefrontoutboardseatingpositionsare
designedtotightentheseatbeltsfirmlyagainsttheoccupant’sbody
duringfrontalcollisions.Thishelpsincreasetheeffectivenessoftheseat
belts.Infrontalcollisions,theseatbeltpretensionerscanbeactivated
aloneor,ifthecollisionisofsufficientseverity,togetherwiththefront
airbags.

Thefrontseatbeltenergymanagementretractorsallowwebbingtobe
pulledoutoftheretractorinagradualandcontrolledmannerin
responsetotheoccupant’sforwardmomentum.Thishelpsreducethe
riskofforce-relatedinjuriestotheoccupant’schestbylimitingtheload
ontheoccupant.RefertoEnergymanagementretractorssectionin
thischapter.
Determining if the Personal Safety System™ is operational
ThePersonalSafetySystem™usesawarninglightintheinstrument
clusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthesystem.Refer
totheWarninglightsandchimessectionintheInstrumentCluster
chapter.RoutinemaintenanceofthePersonalSafetySystem™isnot
required.
TheRestraintsControlModule(RCM)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthecircuitsfortheairbagsupplementalrestraints,crashsensor(s),
seatbeltpretensioners,frontseatbeltbucklesensors,frontpassenger
sensingsystem,andthedriverseatpositionsensor.Inaddition,theRCM
alsomonitorstherestraintswarninglightintheinstrumentcluster.A
difficultywiththesystemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing.

Thewarninglightwilleitherflashorstaylit.
Thewarninglightwillnotilluminateimmediatelyafterignitionis
turnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemandwarninglightarerepaired.
