JUMP STARTING YOUR VEHICLE
Thegasesaroundthebatterycanexplodeifexposedtoflames,
sparks,orlitcigarettes.Anexplosioncouldresultininjuryor
vehicledamage.
Donotpushstartyourvehicle.Youcoulddamagethecatalytic
converter.
Batteriescontainsulfuricacidwhichburnsskin,eyes,and
clothing.
Preparing your vehicle
Alsoseethelabelonthebattery.
Useonlya12–voltsupplytostartyourvehicle.Ifyouconnectyour
1.
batterytoa24–voltpowersupplyyoucandamageyourstarter,ignition
systemandotherelectricalcomponents.
2.
Donotdisconnectthebatteryofthedisabledvehicleasthiscould
damagethevehicle’selectricalsystem.
3.
Parktheboostervehicleclosetothehoodofthedisabledvehicle
makingsuretheydonottouch.Settheparkingbrakeonbothvehicles
andstayclearoftheenginecoolingfanandothermovingparts.
4.
Checkallbatteryterminalsandremoveanyexcessivecorrosionbefore
youattachthebatterycables.
5.
Turntheheaterfanoninbothvehiclestoprotectanyelectrical
surges.Turnallotheraccessoriesoff.
Connecting the jumper cables
1.
Positionthevehiclessothattheydonottouchoneanother.
2.
Switchofftheengine.Switchoffanyunnecessaryelectrical
equipment.
3.
Connectthepositive(+)terminalofthedischargedbattery(1)tothe
positive(+)terminaloftheboosterbattery(2).
4.
boosterbattery(3)andtheotherendtoametalpartoftheenginetobe
started(4),nottothenegative(-)terminalofthedischargedbattery.
Connectoneendofthesecondleadtothenegative(-)terminalofthe
