Safety belt maintenance
Checkthesafetybeltsystemsperiodicallytomakesuretheywork
properlyandarenotdamaged.Checkthesafetybeltstomakesurethere
arenonicks,wearsorcuts.Allsafetybeltassemblies,including
retractors,buckles,frontseatbeltbuckleassemblies(slidebar)(if
equipped),shoulderbeltheightadjusters(ifequipped),childsafetyseat
tetherbracketassemblies(ifequipped),andattachinghardware,should
beinspectedafteracollision.Fordrecommendsthatallsafetybelt
assembliesusedinvehiclesinvolvedinacollisionbereplaced.However,
ifthecollisionwasminorandaqualifiedtechnicianfindsthatthebelts
donotshowdamageandcontinuetooperateproperly,theydonotneed
tobereplaced.Safetybeltassembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshould
alsobeinspectedandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationis
noted.
Failuretoreplacethesafetybeltassemblyundertheabove
conditionscouldresultinseverepersonalinjuriesintheeventof
acollision.
