lightwillstayonuntiltheengineiscranked,thenturnitselfoffifno
malfunctionsarepresent.However,ifafter15secondstheЉService
enginesoonЉlightblinkseighttimes,itmeansthatthevehicleisnot
readyforI/Mtesting.SeetheReadinessforInspection/Maintenance
(I/M)testingintheMaintenanceandSpecificationschapter.
SolidilluminationaftertheengineisstartedindicatestheOnBoard
DiagnosticsSystem(OBD-II)hasdetectedamalfunction.RefertoOn
boarddiagnostics(OBD-II)intheMaintenanceandSpecifications
chapter.Ifthelightisblinking,enginemisfireisoccurringwhichcould
damageyourcatalyticconverter.Driveinamoderatefashion(avoid
heavyaccelerationanddeceleration)andhaveyourvehicleserviced
immediatelybyyourauthorizeddealer.
Underenginemisfireconditions,excessiveexhausttemperatures
coulddamagethecatalyticconverter,thefuelsystem,interior
floorcoveringsorothervehiclecomponents,possiblycausingafire.
Electronicthrottlecontrol
(ifequipped):Illuminateswhen
theenginehasdefaultedtoa
’limp-home’operation.Reportthe
faulttoadealerattheearliestopportunity.
Onvehiclesequippedwithamessagecenter,“ENGINEFAILSAFE
MODE”willbedisplayed,refertoMessageCenterintheDriver
Controlschapter.
