Safety belt maintenance
Inspectthesafetybeltsystemsperiodicallytomakesuretheywork
properlyandarenotdamaged.Inspectthesafetybeltstomakesure
therearenonicks,tearsorcuts.Replaceifnecessary.Allsafetybelt
assemblies,includingretractors,buckles,frontsafetybeltbuckle
assemblies,bucklesupportassemblies(slidebar-ifequipped),shoulder
beltheightadjusters(ifequipped),shoulderbeltguideonseatback(if
equipped),childsafetyseatLATCHandtetheranchors,andattaching
hardware,shouldbeinspectedafteracollision.FordMotorCompany
recommendsthatallsafetybeltassembliesinuseinvehiclesinvolvedin
acollisionbereplaced.However,ifthecollisionwasminorandan
authorizeddealerfindsthatthebeltsdonotshowdamageandcontinue
tooperateproperly,theydonotneedtobereplaced.Safetybelt
assembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshouldalsobeinspectedand
replacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationisnoted.
Failuretoinspectandifnecessaryreplacethesafetybelt
assemblyundertheaboveconditionscouldresultinsevere
personalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
