Anenergymanagementretractorisadevicewhichpaysoutwebbingina
controlledmanner.Thisfeatureisdesignedtohelpfurtherreducethe
riskofforce-relatedinjuriestotheoccupant.
Safetybeltsystemsequippedwithanenergymanagementretractormust
bereplacediftheywereinuseduringafrontalcollisionwhichresulted
indeploymentofthefrontalairbags.RefertotheSafetybelt
maintenancesectioninthischapter.
Thefrontandrearsafetyrestraintsinthevehiclearecombinationlap
andshoulderbelts.Thefrontpassengeroutboardandrearoutboardseat
safetybeltshavetwotypesoflockingmodesdescribedbelow:
Vehicle sensitive mode
Thevehiclesensitivemodeisthenormalretractormode,allowingfree
shoulderbeltlengthadjustmenttoyourmovementsandlockingin
responsetovehiclemovement.Forexample,ifthedriverbrakes
suddenlyorturnsacornersharply,orthevehiclereceivesanimpactof
approximately5mph(8km/h)ormore,thecombinationsafetybeltswill
locktohelpreduceforwardmovementofthedriverandpassengers.
Thefrontoutboardsafetybeltscanalsobemadetolockmanuallyby
quicklypullingontheshoulderbelt.Rearsafetybelts(ifequipped)can
alsobemadetolockupbypullingquicklyonthebelt.
Automatic locking mode
Inthismode,theshoulderbeltisautomaticallypre-locked.Thebeltwill
stillretracttoremoveanyslackintheshoulderbelt.
Theautomaticlockingmodeisnotavailableonthedriversafetybelt,or
theRegularCabcentersafetybelt.
