Duringthesummerseason,fuelethanolmaycontainamaximumof85%
denaturedethanol(Ed85)and15%unleadedgasoline.Thefuelethanol
hasahigheroctaneratingthanunleadedregularorpremiumgasoline
andthisallowsthedesignofengineswithgreaterefficiencyandpower.
Winterblendsmaycontainupto75%denaturedethanol(Ed75)andup
to25%unleadedgasolinetoenhancecoldenginestarts.Severelycold
weathermayrequireadditionalmeasuresforreliablestarting.Referto

Ethanolismorechemicallyactivethangasoline.Itcorrodessomemetals
andcausessomeplasticandrubbercomponentstoswell,breakdownor
becomebrittleandcrack,especiallywhenmixedwithgasoline.Special
materialsandprocedureshavebeendevelopedforflexiblefuelvehicles
andthedispensersusedbyethanolfuelproviders.
Flexiblefuelcomponentsandstandardunleadedgasolinefuel
componentsarenotinterchangeable.Ifyourvehicleisnot
servicedinaccordancewithflexiblefuelvehiclesprocedures,damage
mayoccurandyourwarrantymaybeinvalidated.
Whenrefuelingalwaysshuttheengineoffandneverallow
sparksoropenflamesnearthefillerneck.Neversmokewhile
refueling.Fuelvaporisextremelyhazardousundercertainconditions.
Careshouldbetakentoavoidinhalingexcessfumes.
Theflowoffuelthroughafuelpumpnozzlecanproducestatic
electricity,whichcancauseafireiffuelispumpedintoan
ungroundedfuelcontainer.
