AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OPERATION
Brake-shift interlock - column-shift  transmission
Thisvehicleisequippedwithapark/brake-shiftinterlockfeaturethat
preventsthegearshiftleverfrombeingmovedfromP(Park)whenthe
ignitionisintheONpositionunlessthebrakepedalisdepressed.
IfyoucannotmovethegearshiftleveroutofP(Park)withignitionin
theONpositionandthebrakepedaldepressed,itispossiblethatafuse
hasblownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenotoperatingproperly.Refer
toFusesandrelaysintheRoadsideEmergencieschapter.
Ifthefuseisnotblown,performthefollowingprocedure:
1.
Applytheparkingbrake,turntheignitiontoOFF/LOCK,thenremove
thekey.
2.
Locatetheroundaccessplugon
theundersideofthesteering
columncover.
3.
overridebuttonusingaflatheadscrewdriver,applythebrakepedaland
shiftthetransmissionintoN(Neutral).
Removetheaccessplugusingaflatheadscrewdriver,thenpushthe

Reinstalltheaccessplugcover,startthevehicleandreleasethe
parkingbrake.
Donotdriveyourvehicleuntilyouverifythatthebrakelamps
areworking.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethegearshiftis
latchedinP(Park).TurntheignitiontotheOFF/LOCKposition
andremovethekeywheneveryouleaveyourvehicle.
