Reformulated Gasoline
Many areas of the country require the use of cleaner
burninggasolinereferredtoas“ReformulatedGasoline.”
Reformulatedgasolinescontainoxygenatesandarespe-
cifically blended to reduce vehicle emissions and im-
proveairquality.
Lightsparkknockatlowenginespeedsisnotharmfulto
yourengine.However,continuedheavysparkknockat
highspeedscancausedamageandimmediateserviceis
required.Poorqualitygasolinecancauseproblemssuch
as hard starting, stalling, and hesitations. If you experi-
ence these symptoms, try another brand of gasoline
beforeconsideringserviceforthevehicle.
Themanufacturersupportstheuseofreformulatedgaso-
lines.Properlyblendedreformulatedgasolineswillpro-
videexcellentperformanceanddurabilityofengineand 5
fuelsystemcomponents.
Over40automanufacturersworldwidehaveissuedand
endorsed consistent gasoline specifications (the World
WideFuelCharter,WWFC)whichdefinefuelproperties
necessary to deliver enhanced emissions, performance,
anddurabilityforyourvehicle.Themanufacturerrecom-
mends the use of gasolines that meet the WWFC speci-
fications,iftheyareavailable.
Gasoline/Oxygenate Blends
Some fuel suppliers blend unleaded gasoline with oxy-
genatessuchas10%ethanol,MTBE,andETBE.Oxygen-
atesarerequiredinsomeareasofthecountryduringthe
winter months to reduce carbon monoxide emissions.
Fuels blended with these oxygenates may be used in
yourvehicle.
