TheORCalsomonitorsthereadinessoftheelectronic
partsofthesystemwhenevertheignitionswitchisin
the START or ON positions. These include all of the
itemslistedaboveexceptthekneebolster,theinstru-
mentpanel,andthesteeringwheelandcolumn.Ifthe
keyisintheLOCKposition,intheACCposition,or
notintheignition,theairbagsarenotonandtheywill
notinflate.
WARNING!
Ignoring the Airbag Warning Light in your instru-
mentpanelcouldmeanyouwon’thavetheairbagsto
protectyouinacollision.Ifthelightdoesnotcome
on,staysonafteryoustartthevehicle,orifitcomes
onasyoudrive,havetheairbagsystemcheckedright
away.

TheORCalsoturnsontheAirbagWarning
Lightintheinstrumentpanelforsixtoeight
secondsasaself-checkwhentheignitionis

andthepassengersideoftheinstrumentpanel.When
the ORC detects a collision requiring the airbags, it
signalstheinflatorunits.Alargequantityofnontoxic
gasisgeneratedtoinflatethefrontairbags.Different
airbag inflation rates may be possible based on colli-

the upper passenger side of the instrument panel
separateandfoldoutofthewayasthebagsinflateto
AirbagWarningLightwillturnoff.IftheORCdetects
amalfunctioninanypartofthesystem,itturnsonthe
AirbagWarningLighteithermomentarilyorcontinu-
ously.Asinglechimewillsoundifthelightcomeson
againafterinitialstart-up.
