MMT In Gasoline

MMTisamanganese-containingmetallicadditivethatis
blendedintosomegasolinetoincreaseoctane.Gasoline
blendedwithMMTprovidesnoperformanceadvantage
beyond gasoline of the same octane number without
MMT. Gasoline blended with MMT reduces spark plug
lifeandreducesemissionssystemperformanceinsome
vehicles. The manufacturer recommends that gasoline
withoutMMTbeusedinyourvehicle.TheMMTcontent
ofgasolinemaynotbeindicatedonthegasolinepump,
therefore,youshouldaskyourgasolineretailerwhether
thegasolinecontainsMMT.Itisevenmoreimportantto
lookforgasolinewithoutMMTinCanada,becauseMMT
can be used at levels higher than those allowed in the
UnitedStates.MMTisprohibitedinFederalandCalifor-
niareformulatedgasoline.
All gasoline sold in the United States is required to
contain effective detergent additives. Use of additional
detergentsorotheradditivesisnotneededundernormal
conditions and they would result in additional cost.
Therefore, you should not have to add anything to the
fuel.
