Add enough fluid to bring the level up to the require-
ments described on the brake fluid reservoir. With disc
brakes, fluid level can be expected to fall as the brake
padswear.However,lowfluidlevelmaybecausedbya
leakandacheckupmaybeneeded.
WARNING!
Riding the brakes can lead to brake failure and
possiblyanaccident.Drivingwithyourfootresting
orridingonthebrakepedalcanresultinabnormally
highbraketemperatures,excessiveliningwear,and
possiblebrakedamage.Youwouldn’thaveyourfull
brakingcapacityinanemergency.
Use only manufacturer’s recommended brake fluid. Re-
fer to “Fluids, Lubricants, and Genuine Parts” in this
sectionforthecorrectfluidtype.
MasterCylinder-BrakeFluidLevelCheck
Checkthefluidlevelinthemastercylinderimmediately
if the brake system warning light indicates system fail-
ure.

• Overfillingspilling brakethefluidbrakeonfluidhotreservoirengine partscanresultand thein
brakefluidcatchingfire.
Useofabrakefluidthatmayhavealowerinitial
boilingpoint,orisunidentifiedastospecification,
may result in sudden brake failure during hard
prolongedbraking.Youcouldhaveanaccident.

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder when per-
formingunderhoodservices.
•
Cleanthetopofthemastercylinderareabeforeremoving
thecap.Addfluidtobringtheleveluptothetopofthe
“FULL”markonthesideofthemastercylinderreservoir.
