TheSafetyCanopyismountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,behindthe
headliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.TheSafetyCanopyis
designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopydidnotactivateinacollisiondoesnot
meanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeansthe
forceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.TheSafety
Canopyisdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsorrollover
events,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,unlessthe
collisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrolloverlikelihood.
WARNING:SeveralSafety
Canopysystemcomponents
gethotafterinflation.Donot
touchthemafterinflation.
WARNING:IftheSafetyCanopysystemhasdeployed,the
SafetyCanopywillnotfunctionagainunlessreplaced.The
SafetyCanopysystem(includingtheA,B,C,andDpillartrimand
headliner)mustbeinspectedandservicedbyanauthorizeddealer.If
theSafetyCanopyisnotreplaced,itwillnotfunctionagain,whichwill
increasetheriskofinjuryinafuturecollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertoWarninglightsand
chimesintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
sideairbagisnotrequired.
