overahillwithouttheaidofanobserver.
Whenclimbingasteepslopeorhill,
startinalowergearratherthan
downshiftingtoalowergearfroma
highergearoncetheascenthas
started.Thisreducesstrainonthe
engineandthepossibilityofstalling.
Ifyoudostallout,Donottryto
turnaroundbecauseyoumightroll
over.Itisbettertobackdowntoa
safelocation.
Applyjustenoughpowertothewheelstoclimbthehill.Toomuch
powerwillcausethetirestoslip,spinorlosetraction,resultinginlossof
vehiclecontrol.
Descendahillinthesamegearyou
wouldusetoclimbupthehillto
avoidexcessivebrakeapplication
andbrakeoverheating.Donot
descendinneutral;instead,
disengageoverdriveormanually
shifttoalowergear.When
descendingasteephill,avoid
suddenhardbrakingasyoucould
losecontrol.Whenyoubrakehard,
thefrontwheelscannotturnandif
theyarenotturning,youwillnotbe
abletosteer.Thefrontwheelshavetobeturninginordertosteerthe
vehicle.
Sinceyourvehiclehasanti-lockbrakes,applythebrakessteadily.Donot
“pump”thebrakes.
Drivingonsnowandice
4WDvehicleshaveadvantagesover2WDvehiclesinsnowandicebut
canskidlikeanyothervehicle.
Shouldyoustarttoslidewhiledrivingonsnowyoricyroads,turnthe
steeringwheelinthedirectionoftheslideuntilyouregaincontrol.
