Withtheparkingbrakeengagedandyourfootonthebrakepedal,
starttheengineandmovethegearshiftleverthroughallofthegear
ranges.Allowsufficienttimeforeachgeartoengage.

LatchthegearshiftleverinP(Park)andleavetheenginerunning.
Removethedipstick,wipingitcleanwithaclean,drylintfreerag.If
necessary,refertoIdentifyingcomponentsintheenginecompartment
inthischapterforthelocationofthedipstick.

Installthedipstickmakingsureitisfullyseatedinthefillertube.
7.
Removethedipstickandinspectthefluidlevel.Thefluidshouldbein
theoperatingrangefornormaloperatingtemperature.
Lowfluidlevel
Donotdrivethevehicleifthefluid
levelisatthebottomofthedipstick
andtheoutsidetemperaturesare
above50°F(10°C).

Correctfluidlevel
Thetransmissionfluidshouldbecheckedatnormaloperating
temperatures185°F-200°F(85°C-93°C)onalevelsurface.Thenormal
operatingtemperaturecanbereachedafterapproximately20miles

km)ofdriving.

thezone,identifiedbythearrowin
thisfigure,ifatnormaloperating
temperature185°F-200°F
