Howtodisengagetheautomaticlockingmode
Disconnectthecombinationlap/shoulderbeltandallowittoretract
completelytodisengagetheautomaticlockingmodeandactivatethe
vehiclesensitive(emergency)lockingmode.
Afteranyvehiclecollision,theseatbeltsystematalloutboard
seatingpositions(exceptdriver,whichhasno“automaticlocking
retractor”feature)mustbecheckedbyaqualifiedtechniciantoverify
thatthe“automaticlockingretractor”featureforchildseatsisstill
functioningproperly.Inaddition,allseatbeltsshouldbecheckedfor
properfunction.
BELTANDRETRACTORASSEMBLYMUSTBEREPLACEDif
theseatbeltassembly“automaticlockingretractor”featureor
anyotherseatbeltfunctionisnotoperatingproperlywhenchecked
accordingtotheproceduresinWorkshopManual.
FailuretoreplacetheBeltandRetractorassemblycould
increasetheriskofinjuryincollisions.
Safety belt pretensioner (if equipped)
Yourvehicleisequippedwithsafetybeltpretensionersatthedriverand
frontoutboardpassengerseatingpositions.
Thesafetybeltpretensionersaredesignedtoactivateduringcertain
frontalornear-frontalcollisionswithsufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
Asafetybeltpretensionerisadevicewhichtightensthewebbingofthe
lapandshoulderbeltsinsuchawaythattheyfitmoresnuglyagainst
thebody.
Thedriverandfrontoutboardpassengersafetybeltsystem(including
retractors,buckleassembly,pretensionerassemblywithseatandheight
adjusters)mustbereplacedifthevehicleisinvolvedinacollisionthat
resultsintheactivationofthesafetybeltpretensioners.Refertothe
Safetybeltmaintenancesectioninthischapter.
Failuretoreplacethesafetybeltassemblyundertheabove
conditionscouldresultinseverepersonalinjuriesintheeventof
acollision.
