Starting the engine
Note:Wheneveryoustartyourvehicle,releasethekeyassoonasthe
enginestarts.Excessivecrankingcoulddamagethestarter.

Turnthekeyto5(START)
withoutpressingtheaccelerator
pedalandreleaseassoonasthe
enginestarts.Thekeywillreturnto

Ifthetemperatureisabove–12°

C(10°F)andtheenginedoesnot
startwithinfivesecondsonthefirst
try,turnthekeytoOFF,wait10
secondsandtryagain.Iftheengine
doesnotstartintwoattempts,
presstheacceleratorallthewaytothefloorandhold.Turnthekeyto
theSTARTposition.

Ifthetemperatureisbelow-12°C(10°F)andtheenginedoesnot
startin15secondsonthefirsttry,turnthekeyOFFandwait10
secondsandtryagain.Iftheenginedoesnotstartintwoattempts,press
theacceleratorpedalallthewaytofloorandhold.Turnthekeyto
STARTposition.
4.
Whentheenginestarts,releasethekey,thenreleasetheaccelerator
pedalgraduallyastheenginespeedsup.
5.Afteridlingforafewseconds,applythebrake,shiftintogearand
drive.
Using the engine block heater (if equipped)
Anengineblockheaterwarmstheenginecoolant,whichimproves
starting,warmsuptheenginefasterandallowstheheater-defroster
systemtorespondquickly.Useofanengineblockheaterisstrongly
recommendedifyouliveinaregionwheretemperaturesreach-23°C
(-10
°F)orbelow.
Forbestresults,plugtheheaterinatleastthreehoursbeforestarting
thevehicle.Usingtheheaterforlongerthanthreehourswillnotharm
theengine,sotheheatercanbepluggedinthenightbeforestartingthe
vehicle.
Topreventelectricalshock,donotuseyourheaterwith
ungroundedelectricalsystemsortwo-pronged(cheater)
adapters.
