Medicalcondition.Apassengerhasamedicalconditionwhich,
accordingtohisorherphysician:
•

causesthepassengerairbagtoposeaspecialriskforthepassenger;
and
makesthepotentialharmfromthepassengerairbaginacrash
greaterthanthepotentialharmfromturningOFFtheairbagand
allowingthepassenger,evenifbelted,tohitthedashboardor
windshieldinacrash.
Thisvehiclehasspecialenergymanagementsafetybeltsforthe
driverand/orrightfrontpassenger.Theseparticularbeltsare
specificallydesignedtoworkwithairbagstohelpreducetheriskof
injuryinacollision.Theenergymanagementsafetybeltisdesignedto
giveorreleaseadditionalbeltwebbinginsomeaccidentstoreduce
concentrationofforceonanoccupant’schestandreducetheriskof
certainbonefracturesandinjuriestounderlyingorgans.Inacrash,if
theairbagisturnedOFF,thisenergymanagementsafetybeltmight
permitthepersonwearingthebelttomoveforwardenoughtoincura
seriousorfatalinjury.Themoreseverethecrash,andtheheavierthe
occupant,thegreatertherisk.BesuretheairbagisturnedONforany
personwhodoesnotqualifyundertheNHTSAdeactivationcriteria.
TransportCanadadeactivationcriteria(CanadaOnly)
1.
Infant:Aninfant(lessthan1yearold)mustrideinthefrontseat
because:
•
•
thevehiclehasnorearseat;
therearseatinthevehiclecannotaccommodatearear-facinginfant
seat;or
•
theinfanthasamedicalconditionwhich,accordingtotheinfant’s
physician,makesitnecessaryfortheinfanttorideinthefrontseatso
thatthedrivercanmonitortheinfant’ scondition.
2.
Childage12orunder:Achildage12orundermustrideinthe
frontseatbecause:
•
•
thevehiclehasnorearseat;
althoughchildrenage12andunderrideintherearseatwhenever
possible,childrenage12andunderhavenooptionbuttosometimes
rideinthefrontseatbecauserearseatspaceisinsufficient;or
•
thechildhasamedicalconditionthat,accordingtothechild’s
physician,makesitnecessaryforthechildtorideinthefrontseatso
thatthedrivercanmonitorthechild’ scondition.
