Iftheairbaghasdeployed,theairbagwillnotfunction
againandmustbereplacedimmediately.Iftheairbagisnot
replaced,theunrepairedareawillincreasetheriskofinjuryina
collision.
TheSRSconsistsof:

driverandpassengerairbagmodules(whichincludetheinflatorsand
airbags),
oneormoreimpactandsafingsensors,passengerairbagdeactivation
switchanddiagnosticmonitor(RCM)
•

areadinesslightandtone,
andtheelectricalwiringwhichconnectsthecomponents.
TheRCM(restraintscontrolmodule)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthesupplementalairbagelectricalsystemwarning(includingthe
passengerairbagdeactivationswitch,theimpactsensors,thesystem
wiring,theairbagsystemreadinesslight,theairbagbackuppowerand
theairbagignitors).
Determining if the system is operational
TheSRSusesreadinesslightsintheinstrumentclusterandthe
passengerairbagdeactivateswitchoratonetoindicatetheconditionof
thesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadinesssectionintheInstrument
clusterchapterorPassengerairbagon/offswitchsectioninthis
chapter.Routinemaintenanceoftheairbagisnotrequired.
Adifficultywiththesystemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Thereadinesslightswilleither
flashorstaylit.
Thereadinesslightswillnot
illuminateimmediatelyafter
ignitionisturnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemand/orlightarerepaired.
Ifanyofthesethingshappen,evenintermittently,havetheSRSserviced
atyourdealershiporbyaqualifiedtechnicianimmediately.Unless
serviced,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperlyintheeventofa
collision.
