Removethekeyonlywhenthevehicle
isparked:
Removingthekeyfromtheignition
switchwhilethevehicleismovingis
dangerous.Removingthekeyallows
thesteeringwheeltolock.Youwill
losesteeringcontrolandaserious
accidentcouldoccur.
NOTE
WhentheignitionswitchisturnedtotheON
position,thesoundofthefuelpumpmotor
operating nearthefueltankcanbeheard.This
doesnotindicateanabnormality.
Beforeleavingthedriver'sseat,always
switchtheignitionoff,settheparking
brake,andmakesuretheshiftleveris
inP(automatictransaxle)orin1stgear
orR(manualtransaxle):
Leavingthedriver'sseatwithout
switchingofftheignition,settingthe
parkingbrake,andshiftingtheshift
levertoP(automatictransaxle)orto
1stgearorR(manualtransaxle)is
dangerous.Unexpectedvehicle
movementcouldoccurwhichcould
resultinanaccident.
Inaddition,ifyourintentionisto
leavethevehicleforevenashort
period,itisimportanttoswitchthe
ignitionoff,asleavingitinanother
positionwilldisablesomeofthe
vehicle'ssecuritysystemsandrunthe
batterydown.
START
Theengineisstartedinthisposition.It
willcrankuntilyoureleasethekey;then
itreturnstotheONposition.Thebrake
warninglightcanbecheckedafterthe
engineisstarted(page5-43).
qIgnitionKeyReminder
Iftheignitionisswitchedtooff(LOCK)
orACCwiththekeyinserted,a
continuousbeepsoundwillbeheard
whenthedriver'sdoorisopened.
NOTE
Ifturningthekeyisdifficult,jigglethesteering
wheelfromsidetoside.
LeavingthekeyinanypositionbutLOCK
positionalsodisablessomeofthesecurity
featuresandmayrunthebatterydown.
