Thedetectability oftheradarsensorshasitslimitations. TheBSMsystemmaynotoperate
l
properlyunderthefollowing conditions:
Ice,snow,orsoiladherestotherearbumpersurfacearoundtheradarsensors.
l
Duringadverseweatherconditions suchasrainorsnow,orunderconditions wherewateris
l
sprayed.
Therearbumperareaaroundtheradarsensorsisblockedbyforeignmaterial(suchas
l
stickersorabicyclecarrier).
Theradarsensorsmaynotdetectalltypesofvehiclesaroundyourvehicle,especially the
l
following typesofvehicles:
Motorcycles
l
Vehicleswithbodyshapesthatradarmaynotreflectsuchasaflatbedtrailerwithnocargo.
l
Vehicleswithlowerbodyheightsuchassportscars.
l
Havetheradarsensorsinspected atanAuthorized MazdaDealerifanyshockisappliedtothe
l
rearbumper,eveninaminoraccident.Ifthevehicleisdrivenwithadamaged radarsensor,the
systemmaynotoperateproperlyresultinginanaccident.
Forrepairsorpaintwork aroundtheradarsensors,orreplacement ofthebumper,consultan
l
Authorized MazdaDealer.
TheradarsensorsoftheBSMsystemmayberegulatedundertheradiowaverelatedlawsofthe
l
countrywherethevehicleisdriven.ThesensorsinthissystemareapprovedforuseintheU.S.A.
(including territories), Canada,andMexico.IfavehiclewithaBSMsystemisdriveninacountry
otherthantheU.S.A.,Canada,orMexico,thesystemhastobeturnedoffusingtheBSMOFF
switch.
Thedetection areaofthesystemhasbeendetermined basedonthelanewidthofgeneral
l
freeways.Thereforeonaroadwithanarrowerlanewidth,thesystemmaydetectvehiclesona
lanenexttotheadjacentlaneandoperatethewarninglight/beep. Onaroadwithwiderlane
width,thesystemmaynotdetectvehiclesontheadjacentlaneandmaynotoperatethewarning
light/beep.
Operation ofthewarninglight/beep maybedelayedorthesystemmaynotoperatethewarning
l
light/beep underthefollowing conditions:
Thevehicleaccelerates fromastanding-start withavehiclealongside.
l
Avehiclemovesfromalanetwolanesovertotheadjacentlane.
l
Thedifferenceinvehiclespeedbetweenyourvehicleandanothervehicleislargerwhen
l
passingorbeingpassed,andthevehiclepassesthedetectionareawithinashortperiodof
time.
Onasteepincline,orwhenthereisadifferenceinheightbetweenlanes.
l
Immediately afterthesystemhasbeenactivated bypressingtheBSMOFFswitchagainafterit
l
hasbeenturnedoff(BSMOFFindicator lightininstrument panelilluminates) bypressingthe
switch.
Althoughthesystemmaydetectobjectsontheroadsidesuchasparkedvehiclesorguardrailsand
l
operatethewarninglight/beep, itdoesnotindicateamalfunction.
Ifthevehicleisdrivenonaroadwithlesstrafficandfewvehiclesthattheradarsensorscan
l
detect,thesystemmaypause(TheBSMOFFindicator lightintheinstrument panelflashes).
However,itdoesnotindicateamalfunction.
