Itisdangeroustoallowanyonetoleanoveroragainstthesidewindow,theareaof
thefrontpassengerseat,thefrontandrearwindowpillarsandtheroofedgealong
bothsidesfromwhichthesideandcurtainairbagsdeploy,evenifachild-restraint
systemisused.Theimpactofinflationfromasideorcurtainairbagcouldcause
seriousinjuryordeathtoanoutofpositionchild.Furthermore,leaningoveror
againstthefrontdoorcouldblockthesideandcurtainairbagsandeliminatethe
advantagesofsupplementalprotection.Withthefrontairbagandtheadditional
sideairbagthatcomesoutofthefrontseat,therearseatisalwaysabetterlocation
forchildren.Takespecialcarenottoallowachildtoleanoveroragainsttheside
window,evenifthechildisseatedinachild-restraintsystem.
Neveruseoneseatbeltonmorethanonepersonatatime:
Usingoneseatbeltformorethanonepersonatatimeisdangerous.Aseatbelt
usedinthiswaycannotspreadtheimpactforcesproperlyandthetwopassengers
couldbecrushedtogetherandseriouslyinjuredorevenkilled.Neveruseonebeltfor
morethanonepersonatatimeandalwaysoperatethevehiclewitheachoccupant
properlyrestrained.
CAUTION
Aseatbeltorchild-restraintsystemcanbecomeveryhotinaclosedvehicleduring
warmweather.Toavoidburningyourselforachild,checkthembeforeyouoryour
childtouchesthem.
NOTE
YourMazdaisequippedwithLATCHloweranchorsforattachment ofspecially designedLATCH
child-restraint systemsintherearseat.Whenusingtheseanchorstosecureachild-restraint system,
referto“LATCHChild-Restraint Systems”(page2-37).
