Frontsafetybeltpretensioners
Thesafetybeltpretensionersatthefrontoutboardseatingpositionsare
designedtotightenthesafetybeltsfirmlyagainsttheoccupant’sbody
duringfrontalcollisions,andinsidecollisionsandrolloverswhenthe
vehicleisequippedwiththeSafetyCanopy௢system.Thismaximizesthe
effectivenessofthesafetybelts.Infrontalcollisions,thesafetybelt
pretensionerscanbeactivatedaloneor,ifthecollisionisofsufficient
severity,togetherwiththefrontairbags.
Frontsafetybeltenergymanagementretractors
Thefrontoutboardsafetybeltenergymanagementretractorsallow
webbingtobepulledoutoftheretractorinagradualandcontrolled
mannerinresponsetotheoccupant’sforwardmomentum.Thishelps
reducetheriskofforce-relatedinjuriestotheoccupant’schestby
limitingtheloadontheoccupant.RefertoSafetyrestraintssectionin
thischapter.
DeterminingifthePersonalSafetySystemிisoperational
ThePersonalSafetySystem௢usesawarninglightintheinstrument
clusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthesystem.Refer
totheWarninglightsandchimessectionintheInstrumentCluster
chapter.RoutinemaintenanceofthePersonalSafetySystem௢isnot
required.
TheRestraintsControlModule(RCM)monitorsitsowninternalcircuits
andthecircuitsfortheairbagsupplementalrestraints,crashsensor(s),
safetybeltpretensioners,frontsafetybeltbucklesensors,andthedriver
seatpositionsensor.Inaddition,theRCMalsomonitorstherestraints
warninglightintheinstrumentcluster.Adifficultywiththesystemis
indicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Thewarninglightwilleitherflashorstaylit.
Thewarninglightwillnotilluminateimmediatelyaftertheignitionis
turnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemandwarninglightarerepaired.
Ifanyofthesethingshappen,evenintermittently,havethePersonal
SafetySystem௢servicedatyourdealershiporbyaqualifiedtechnician
immediately.Unlessserviced,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperlyin
theeventofacollision.
