Ifthechildisthepropersize,restrainthechildinasafetyseat.Children
whoaretoolargeforchildsafetyseats(asspecifiedbyyourchildsafety
seatmanufacturer)shouldalwayswearsafetybelts.
Followalltheimportantsafetyrestraintandairbagprecautionsthat
applytoadultpassengersinyourvehicle.
Iftheshoulderbeltportionofacombinationlapandshoulderbeltcanbe
positionedsoitdoesnotcrossorrestinfrontofthechild’sfaceorneck,
thechildshouldwearthelapandshoulderbelt.Movingthechildcloserto
thecenterofthevehiclemayhelpprovideagoodshoulderbeltfit.
Donotleavechildren,unreliableadults,orpetsunattendedin
yourvehicle.
Child booster seats
Childrenoutgrowatypicalconvertibleortoddlerseatwhentheyweigh

lb.(18kg)andarearound4yearsofage.Althoughthelap/shoulder
beltwillprovidesomeprotection,thesechildrenarestilltoosmallfor
lap/shoulderbeltstofitproperly,whichcouldincreasetheriskofserious
injury.
Toimprovethefitofboththelapandshoulderbeltonchildrenwho
haveoutgrownchildsafetyseats,FordMotorCompanyrecommendsuse
ofabelt-positioningbooster.
Boosterseatspositionachildsothatsafetybeltsfitbetter.Theyliftthe
childupsothatthelapbeltrestslowacrossthehipsandtheknees
bendcomfortably.Boosterseatsalsomaketheshoulderbeltfitbetter
andmorecomfortablyforgrowingchildren.
Whenchildrenshoulduseboosterseats
Childrenneedtouseboosterseatsfromthetimetheyoutgrowthe
toddlerseatuntiltheyarebigenoughforthevehicleseatand
lap/shoulderbelttofitproperly.Generallythisiswhentheyweighabout
80
lb.(36kg)(about8to12yearsold).
