How does the airbag supplemental restraint system work?

tocausethesensorstoclosean
electricalcircuitthatinitiatesairbag
inflation.
Thefactthattheairbagsdidnot
inflateinacollisiondoesnotmean
thatsomethingiswrongwiththe
system.Rather,itmeanstheforces
werenotofthetypesufficientto
causeactivation.Frontairbagsaredesignedtoinflateinfrontaland
near-frontalcollisions,notrollover,side-impact,orrear-impactsunless
thecollisioncausessufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
