Ifyourvehiclehasbeenparkedforover15minutes,thesensorsgo
intoalowpowermodetoconservebatterylifeandthereforeonly
transmitaboutonceanhour.Ifyouinflateyourtiresunderthese
conditions,thelightcouldtakeuptoanhourtoturnoffafteryou
havefilledyourtirestotherecommendedtirepressure.
Forthesereasons,thelowtirewarninglightisNOTasubstitutefor
usinganaccuratetiregaugewhencheckingandfillingyourtires.The
bestwaytoturnoffthelowtirewarninglightistofillyourtirestothe
recommendedtirepressureanddriveyourvehicle—thetirepressure
sensorsinyourwheelswillupdateyourvehiclewiththeupdatedtire
pressurewhenyourvehiclereachesaspeedof20mph(32km/h)forat
leastaminute.
Howtemperatureaffectsyourtirepressure
TheTirePressureMonitoringSystem(TPMS)monitorstirepressurein
eachpneumatictire.Thepressureineachtireisdependentuponseveral
factors,oneofthembeingthecontainedairtemperature(temperatureof
theairinsidethetire).Asthecontainedairtemperatureincreases,the
tirepressurealsoincreases.Whiledrivinginanormalmanner,atypical
passengertireinflationpressuremayincreaseapproximately2to4psi
(14
to28kPa)fromacoldstartsituation.Thisincreaseintirepressure
isduetoanincreaseinthecontainedairtemperature.Containedair
temperatureisdependentuponseveralfactorssuchasrateoftire
rotation,tiredeflection,amountofbraking,etc.Insimilarmanner,the
tirepressurewilldecreaseifthecontainedairtemperaturedecreases.
Forexample,ifthevehicleisstationaryovernightwiththeoutside
temperaturesignificantlylowerthanthedaytimetemperature,thetire
pressuremaydecreaseapproximately3psi(20.7kPa)foradropof30°
F(16.6°C)inambienttemperature.Thislowerpressurevaluemaybe
detectedbytheTPMSasbeingsignificantlylowerthanthecoldpressure
indicatedonyourvehiclesSafetyComplianceCertificationLabel,and
activatetheTPMSwarningforlowtirepressure.Ifthelowwarninglight
ison,visuallycheckeachtiretoverifythatnotireisflat.Ifoneormore
tiresareflat,repairasnecessary.Ifalltiresappeartobeinflated,
carefullydrivethevehicletothenearestlocationwhereaircanbeadded
tothetires.Turntheignitiontothe“off”position.Inflateallthetiresto
therecommendedcoldpressure.
TheTirePressureMonitoringSystemcomplieswithpart15oftheFCC
rulesandwithRS-210ofIndustryCanada.Operationissubjecttothe
followingtwoconditions:(1)Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmful
