Understanding your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
TheTirePressureMonitoringSystemmeasurespressureinyourfour
roadtiresandsendsthetirepressurereadingstoyourvehicleevery
minutewhileyouaredrivingandonceanhourwhenyourvehicleis
parked.TheLowTireWarningLampwillturnONifthetirepressureis
25%
belowthepressurelistedontheSafetyComplianceCertification
Label(approximately6to9psibelowthemanufacturer’srecommend
tirepressure).Ifthetirepressureincreases2psiabovethe“LightON”
threshold,thentheTPMSlightwillturnOFF.Oncethelightis
illuminated,yourtiresareunderinflatedandneedtobeinflatedtothe
manufacturer’srecommendedtirepressure.EvenifthelightturnsON
andashorttimelaterturnsOFF,yourtirepressurestillneedstobe
checked.
Inshort,oncethelighthasturnedON,atleastonetiremaybeunder
inflated.
Whenyourtemporarysparetireisinstalled
Whenoneofyourroadtiresneedstobereplacedwiththetemporary
spare,theTPMSsystemwillcontinuetoidentifyanissuetoremindyou
thatthedamagedroadwheel/tireneedstoberepairedandputbackon
yourvehicle.Duringthistime,thelowtirewarninglightcanperiodically
returnorstayon,dependingonthestateofthedamagedroad
wheel/tire.Thiswillincludethemessagecentermessages(ifequipped).
TorestorethefullfunctionalityoftheTirePressureMonitoringSystem,
havethedamagedroadwheel/tirerepairedandremountedonyour
vehicle.Foradditionalinformation,refertoChangingtireswithTPMS
inthissection.
Whenyoubelieveyoursystemisnotoperatingproperly
ThemainfunctionoftheTirePressureMonitoringSystemistowarnyou
whenyourtiresneedair.Itcanalsowarnyouintheeventthesystemis
