Seating and Safety Restraints
TheSafetyCanopyismountedtotheroofside-railsheetmetal,behind
theheadliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.Incertainlateral
collisionsorrolloverevents,theSafetyCanopysystemwillbe
activated,regardlessofwhichseatsareoccupied.TheSafetyCanopyis
designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopysystemdidnotactivateinacollision
doesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,it
meanstheforceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.The
SafetyCanopyisdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsor
rolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,
unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrollover
likelihood.
SeveralSafetyCanopysystemcomponentsgethotafter
inflation.Donottouchthemafterinflation.
IftheSafetyCanopy
systemhasdeployed,the
SafetyCanopywillnot
functionagain.TheSafety
Canopysystem(includingthe
A,BandCpillartrim)mustbe
inspectedandservicedbya
qualifiedtechnicianin
accordancewiththevehicle
servicemanual.IftheSafety
Canopyisnotreplaced,the
unrepairedareawillincreasethe
riskofinjuryinacollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
airbagisnotrequired.
