Towing a trailer with a larger than recommended
frontal area could cause the engine to overheat or
cause severe engine damage under extreme condi-
tions.
TrailerandTongueWeight
Alwaysloadatrailerwith60%to65%oftheweightin
thefrontofthetrailer.Thisplaces10%oftheGrossTrailer
Weight (GTW) on the tow hitch of your vehicle. Loads
balancedoverthewheelsorheavierintherearcancause
thetrailertoswayseverelysidetosidewhichwillcause
loss of control of vehicle and trailer. Failure to load
trailers heavier in front is the cause of many trailer
accidents.
Consider the following items when computing the
weightontherearaxleofthevehicle:

Thetongueweightofthetrailer.
The weight of any other type of cargo or equipment
putinoronyourvehicle.
Neverexceedthemaximumtongueweightstampedon
yourbumperortrailerhitch.

Theweightofthedriverandallpassengers.
