THINGSTOKNOWBEFORESTARTINGYOURVEHICLE
Pulling up on the shoulder portion of the lap/shoulder
belt will tighten the belt. The cinching latch plate will
keep the belt tight; however, any seat belt system will
loosenwithtime,socheckthebeltoccasionally,andpull
ittightifnecessary.
In the rear seat, you may have trouble tightening the
lap/shoulder belt on the child restraint because the
buckleorlatchplateistooclosetothebeltpathopening
on the restraint. Disconnect the latch plate from the
buckleandtwisttheshortbuckle-endbeltseveraltimes
toshortenit.Insertthelatchplateintothebucklewiththe
releasebuttonfacingout.
Seat belts with an automatic locking retractor have a
distinctive label on the seat belt webbing. The seat belt
mustbeintheautomaticlockingmodeinordertoenable
a child restraint to be tightly installed. Refer to “Auto-
maticLockingMode”inthissectionfordetails.Alocking
clipshouldnotbenecessaryoncetheautomaticlocking
featureisenabled.Positiontheshoulderandlapbelton
the child restraint. The automatic locking retractor is
activatedbyfirstattachingthechildseat,thenpullingall
ofthewebbingoutoftheretractor,thenallowingbackin.
Tighten webbing. To release, simply unbuckle the seat
belt by depressing the button, allowing the webbing to
retractintotheretractor.
If the belt still can’t be tightened, or if by pulling and
pushingontherestraintloosensthebelt,youmayneed
to do something more. Disconnect the latch plate from
the buckle, turn the buckle around, and insert the latch
plate into the buckle again. If you still can’t make the
childrestraintsecure,tryadifferentseatingposition.
ChildrenTooLargeForBoosterSeats
Childrenwhoarelargeenoughtoweartheshoulderbelt
comfortably, and whose legs are long enough to bend
overthefrontoftheseatwhentheirbackisagainstthe
seatback,shouldusethelap/shoulderbeltinarearseat.
