The automatic transaxle and differential assembly are
containedwithinasinglehousing.
3. Fullyapplyparkingbrake.
Place the gear selector momentarily in each gear
positionendingwiththeleverinP(PARK).Wipethearea
around the dipstick clean to eliminate the possibility of
dirtenteringthetransaxle.

Allautomatictransaxles(withtheexceptionofthetrans-
axle with the 3.5Lengine, which has no dipstick and is
dealer service only) are equipped with a conventional
filler tube and dipstick. If fluid is added, it should be
addedthroughthedipstickholeinthecase.

Removethedipstickanddetermineifthefluidishot
orwarm.Hotfluidisapproximately180°F(82°C),which
isthenormaloperatingtemperatureafterthevehiclehas
beendrivenatleast15miles(24km).Thefluidcannotbe
comfortably held between the finger tips. Cold is when
thefluidisbelow80°F(27°C).
ProcedureForCheckingFluidLevel
The fluid level in the automatic transaxle should be
checkedwheneverthevehicleisserviced.Operationwith
animproperfluidlevelwillgreatlyreducethelifeofthe
transaxleandofthefluid.
6.
Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert until seated.
Removedipstickandnotereading.
The fluid level in the automatic transaxle with 3.5L
engine,shouldbecheckedonlybyatrainedtechnician.
a. If the fluid is hot, the reading should be in the
crosshatched area marked “HOT” (between the
uppertwoholesinthedipstick).
Toproperlychecktheautomatictransaxlefluidlevel,the
followingproceduremustbeused:
b. If the fluid is cold, the fluid level should be
between the lower two holes in the area marked
“COLD”.

Thevehiclemustbeonlevelground.
Theengineshouldberunningatcurbidlespeedfora
minimumof60seconds.
