Brake System
Check the fluid level in the master cylinder when per-
formingunderhoodservices.
In order to assure brake system performance, all brake
system components should be inspected periodically.
Refertothe“MaintenanceSchedules”inSection8forthe
propermaintenanceintervals.
Cleanthetopofthemastercylinderareabeforeremoving
thecap.Ifnecessary,addfluidtobringthefluidlevelup
to the requirements described on the brake fluid reser-
voir.
WARNING!
Overfillingoffluidisnotrecommendedbecauseitmay
causeleakinginthesystem.
Riding the brakes can lead to brake failure and
possiblyanaccident.Drivingwithyourfootresting
orridingonthebrakepedalcanresultinabnormally
highbraketemperatures,excessiveliningwear,and
possiblebrakedamage.Youwouldn’thaveyourfull
brakingcapacityinanemergency.
Fluidlevelcanbeexpectedtofallasthebrakepadswear.
Brake fluid level should be checked when pads are
replaced. However, low fluid level may be caused by a
leakandacheckupmaybeneeded.
NOTE:
If your vehicle is equipped with a manual
MasterCylinder-BrakeFluidLevelCheck
Checkthefluidlevelinthemastercylinderimmediately
if the Brake System Warning Telltale Light indicates
systemfailure.
transaxle,theBrakeFluidReservoirsuppliesfluidtoboth
the Brake System and the Clutch Release System. The
twosystemsareseparatedinthereservoirandaleakin
onesystemwillnotaffecttheothersystem.Themanual
