Airbags inflate in moderate-to-high-speed impacts.
Along with seat belts and pretensioners, front airbags
workwiththeinstrumentpanelkneeimpactblockersto
provide improved protection for the driver and front
passenger. SideAirbag Inflatable Curtains (SABIC) also
workwithseatbeltstoimproveoccupantprotection.
NOTE: Thepassengerfrontairbagmaynotdeployeven
whenthedriverfrontairbaghas,iftheOccupantClassi-
ficationSystem(refertoЉOccupantClassificationModule
(OCM)Љ in this section) has determined the passenger
seatisemptyorisoccupiedbysomeonethatisclassified
inthe“childЉcategory.Thiscouldbeachild,ateenager,
orevenasmalladult.

Theseatbeltsaredesignedtoprotectyouinmanytypes
of collisions. The front airbags deploy in moderate-to-
severefrontalcollisions.Ifyourvehicleisequipped,the
SideAirbagInflatableCurtain(SABIC)onthecrashside
of the vehicle is triggered in moderate to severe side
collisions.Incertaintypesofcollisions,boththefrontseat
Side Airbag Inflatable Curtains (SABIC) may be trig-
gered.Butevenincollisionswheretheairbagswork,you
need to wear the seat belts to keep you in the right
positionfortheairbagstoprotectyouproperly.
Herearesomesimplestepsyoucantaketominimizethe
riskofharmfromadeployingairbag.

Children 12 years old and younger should always
ridebuckledupinarearseat.
WARNING!
Infantsinrear-facingchildrestraintsshouldNEVER
ride in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger
frontairbag.Anairbagdeploymentcancausesevere
injuryordeathtoinfantsinthatposition.
