Thebelt-positioningbooster(boosterseat)isusedtoimprovethefitof
thevehiclesafetybelt.Childrenoutgrowatypicalchildseat(e.g.,
convertibleortoddlerseat)whentheyweighabout40lb(18kg)andare
aroundfour(4)yearsofage.Consultyourchildsafetyseatownerguide
fortheweight,height,andagelimitsspecifictoyourchildsafetyseat.
Keepyourchildinthechildsafetyseatifitproperlyfitsthechild,
remainsappropriatefortheirweight,heightandageANDifproperly
securedtothevehicle.
Althoughthelap/shoulderbeltwillprovidesomeprotection,children
whohaveoutgrownatypicalchildseatarestilltoosmallforlap/shoulder
beltstofitproperly,andwearinganimproperlyfittedvehiclesafetybelt
couldincreasetheriskofseriousinjuryinacrash.Toimprovethefitof
boththelapandshoulderbeltonchildrenwhohaveoutgrownchild
safetyseats,FordMotorCompanyrecommendsuseofabelt-positioning
booster.
Boosterseatspositionachildsothatvehiclelap/shouldersafetybeltsfit
better.Theyliftthechildupsothatthelapbeltrestslowacrossthehips
andthekneesbendcomfortablyattheedgeofthecushion,while
minimizingslouching.Boosterseatsmayalsomaketheshoulderbeltfit
betterandmorecomfortably.Trytokeepthebeltnearthemiddleofthe
shoulderandacrossthecenterofthechest.Movingthechildcloser(a
fewcentimetersorinches)tothecenterofthevehicle,butremainingin
thesameseatingposition,mayhelpprovideagoodshoulderbeltfit.
