On board diagnostics (OBD-II)
Yourvehicleisequippedwithacomputerthatmonitorstheengine’s
emissioncontrolsystem.ThissystemiscommonlyknownastheOn
BoardDiagnosticsSystem(OBD-II).TheOBD-IIsystemprotectsthe
environmentbyensuringthatyourvehiclecontinuestomeet
governmentemissionstandards.TheOBD-IIsystemalsoassistsyour
authorizeddealerinproperlyservicingyourvehicle.Whentheservice
enginesoon
amalfunction.Temporarymalfunctionsmaycausetheserviceengine
indicatortoilluminate.Examplesare:
indicatorilluminates,theOBD-IIsystemhasdetected

Thevehiclehasrunoutoffuel—theenginemaymisfireorrunpoorly.

Thesetemporarymalfunctionscanbecorrectedbyfillingthefueltank
withgoodqualityfuel,properlyclosingthefuelfillinletorlettingthe
electricalsystemdryout.Afterthreedrivingcycleswithouttheseorany
othertemporarymalfunctionspresent,theserviceenginesoon
indicatorshouldstayoffthenexttimetheengineisstarted.Adriving
cycleconsistsofacoldenginestartupfollowedbymixedcity/highway
driving.Noadditionalvehicleserviceisrequired.
