failstostart,switchoffandwaitforatleast10secondsbefore
tryingagain.

Whattodoiftheenginefailstostart,orstartsbutwillnot
continuerunning:

Ensurethattheengineisremobilised(ie.thealarmindicator
lightisextinguished).
Continueduseofthestarterwill
notonlydischargethebattery,
butmaydamagethestarter
motorandthecatalytic
converter.

Presstheacceleratorpedalhalfwaydownwhileoperatingthe
starter.DONOToperatethestarterformorethan15seconds
andreleasetheacceleratorassoonastheenginefires.

Iftheenginestillfailstostart,operatethestarteragain,thistime
fullydepressingtheacceleratorpedaltocleartheengineof
excessfuel.Ensurethestartermotorisnotoperatedformore
than15secondsandreleasetheacceleratorassoonasthe
enginehasstarted.

Infreezingconditions,orwhen
thebatteryisinalowstateof
charge,depresstheclutch
beforestartingandholdit
downuntiltheengineis
running.
DONOTpumptheacceleratorpedalduringstarting.
Coldclimates
Infreezingconditions,fullydepresstheclutchpedalwhilestarting
andholditdownuntiltheengineisrunning.Notethatengine
crankingtimeswillincreaseandthatthebatterychargingandoil
pressurelightsmaytakeseveralsecondstoextinguish.
Warmingup
Intheinterestoffueleconomy,itisadvisabletodrivethevehicle
soonafterstarting,rememberingthatharshacceleration,or
labouringtheenginebeforenormaloperatingtemperaturehasbeen
reached,candamagetheengine.
