Ifthelightcomesonandremainsonwhiledriving,stop
the vehicle and shut off the engine. Do not operate the
vehicleuntilthecauseiscorrected.
WARNING!
Drivingavehiclewiththebrakelightonisdanger-
ous. A significant decrease in braking performance
mayoccur.Itwilltakeyoulongertostopthevehicle.
You could have an accident. Have the vehicle
checkedimmediately.
Thelightdoesnotshowthequantityofoilintheengine.
This can be determined using the procedure shown in
Section7.

BrakeSystemWarningLight
Thislightmonitorsboththebrakefluidlevel
andtheparkingbrake.Ifthelightcomeson,
it indicates either that the parking brake is
on or there is a low fluid level in the brake
mastercylinder.OnvehiclesequippedwithAnti-lock
brakes (ABS), the brake light may also indicate re-
ducedbrakingperformance.
Thewarninglightshouldbecheckedfrequentlytoassure
thatitisoperatingproperly.Turntheignitionkeytothe
RUN position. (Refer to “A Word About Your Keys,
IgnitionKeyRemoval”inthismanualforanillustration
oftheignitionpositions.)Thelightshouldcomeon.Ifthe
lightdoesnotcomeon,havethesystemcheckedbyan
authorizeddealer.
Iftheparkingbrakeisoffandthelightremainson,have
thebrakesysteminspectedassoonaspossible.
The light will also come on when the parking brake is
appliedwiththeignitionintheRUNposition.
NOTE: Thislightshowsonlythattheparkingbrakeis
on.Itdoesnotshowthedegreeofbrakeapplication.
