Type) is used to characterize the station’s program ma-
terial, for exam ple ЉRock MusicЉ.
Press the TUNE control up or down to increase or
decrease the frequ ency. If you press and hold the button,
the rad io will continu e to tune until you release the
button. The frequ ency will be displayed and continu -
ously updated while the button is pressed .
PTY(ProgramType)Button
Pressing this button once will turn on the PTY mode for

second s. If no action is taken during the 5 second time
RadioDataSystem(RDS)
out the PTY icon will turn off. Pressing the PTY button 4
within 5 second s will allow the program form at typ e to
be selected . Many rad io stations do not currently broad -
cast PTY inform ation.
The Radio Data System allow s rad io broad casting sta-
tions to send data signals on a subcarrier frequ ency
which is added to the stereo signal. RDS was develop ed
to give FM receivers user-friend ly featu res, such as
Program Service nam e (PS) and Program Type (PTY).
Program Service nam e is typ ically used by the broad -
caster to display the station’s nam e or call letters, for
exam ple ЉWNICЉ. Typically these are 8 characters in
length and are displayed by the rad io for those stations
